I have been on a major seafood-kick as of late so I decided what better to write about than a city with some of the best seafood in northern Italy, Venezia! Often travelers struggle with finding authentic Venetian cuisine due to all the restaurants with American-ized menus. However you really can't go wrong if you go into an osteria (pub/casual restaurant) and order cicheti. Cicheti are essentially small plates served in a variety of mediums ranging from paninis to bruschette to meatballs. However in Venice, spring for the seafood. For obvious reasons this watertown is stuffed to the brim with calamari, mussels and shrimp galore. For an inexpensive and authentic taste of Venice pile fresh octopus onto crostini drilled with olive oil, pair with some Veneto white wine, finish with an espresso and frittella, the ultimate Venetian doughnut!
