Roman Ruins this Holy Week

If you are headed to Rome this Holy Week there are a many great festivals and traditions going on throughout the city. Although it would be a last minute flight, you could still make it in time for the April 3 Good Friday rituals. First you can attend the Papal Mass at the Vatican in the evening. But for something a bit more special attend the Stations of the Cross, Via Crucis. The Pope leads a torchlight procession from the Colosseium to the Palatine Hill of the fourteen Stations of the Cross along the way. The Stations of the Cross were first placed at the Colosseum in 1744 by Pope Benedict XIV. They are one of the most popular and moving religious practices in Rome so go early and expect lots of crowds. However I think the burning cross in the sky with the Colosseium backdrop will be a sight worth seeing.
