Roman Pizza for a Birthday Celebration!

In honor of Rome’s birthday today we will be discussing how you can celebrate Rome in your hometown with an easily attainable yet traditionally Italian classic, PIZZA! While pizza originated in Naples, Roman pizza is an art in and of itself. Roman pizza is especially thin with a great char to the crust. Avoid the pizza by the slice places, pizza al taglio, in favor of more traditional outdoor pizzerias. These round single-serve pizzas are always served as dinner options and usually include few toppings that are the highest of quality, seasonal, and

simple. Speaking of toppings, what are some of the popular options in Rome? Well of course there is pizza margherita with creamy buffalo mozzarella and fresh tomatoes and basil for an “oldie but a goodie” option. For something seasonal (albeit a bit early) try a pizza with zucchini flowers, the perfect spring and summer option to brighten up the flavors; finish with some cracked black pepper. And for a pizza typically Roman you can’t go wrong with carciofi, artichokes! Artichokes are religion in Rome so if you want a truly Roman celebration throw em’ on a pizza with some sun-dried tomatoes and a drizzle of olive oil and eccola, pizza alla romana per il compleanno della citta eternal!
