To know Italian food one must know GeLaTo. Andrew Zimmern referred to gelato as Italian air-conditioning, which may just be the most accurate description of a food I have ever heard. Italy can be veryyyy hot and most of the country still doesn't have air-conditioning as the structures are centuries old. Sicily in the summer...you need some relief, so gelato might just be the best solution. Creamier, smoother, more flavorful, and actually less fattening than ice cream, gelato is the ultimate pleasure. From strawberry and mango to hazelnut and pistacchio, you can't go wrong with some genuine gelato. While it can be hard to find in the US because of difference between pasturized vs. non-pasturized milk, great gelato is worth the search. Go out and explore the best gelateria in your area for the ultimate flavor sensation. For a truly authenic experience throw your gelato between a brioche bun and eat it like an ice cream sandwich!
